Trillium kurabayashii - Cistus Dark Mottled Strain
From one of the most beautiful species in the genus, these multi-generations later from particularly purple mottled plants along Oregon's Rogue river. 12 to 18 inches tall and slowly clumping emerging midwinter and flowering anywhere from the end of February into April. Three petaled maroon flowers resting on wide leaves blotched silver light green and dark purple. Not fussy about soil, loves dappled shade. Often found growing on the edge of redwood into oak meadows. This seed strain for particularly dark flowers and leaves varying from blotched green and silver to almost completely dark purple. Seedlings from these plants will produce a variety of beautiful leaf forms. Leaf coloration is most pronounced when plants first emerge, developing more green as the season progresses.
