Autumn colors are bright orange-red as leaves begin to fall. And, as with many others, the gray bark exfoliates, leaving a patterned surface. Crape myrtles grow best in well-drained soil, not too rich, with some summer water for best flowers. Frost hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
