Dark purple leaves, rounded and red-veined, emerge in spring turning bright red in fall before dropping. Panicles of tiny, white flowers in late spring to early summer surround the canopy with a smokey haze. Can reach 15ft tall by 15ft wide but easily coppiced, managing the size but losing the flowers. Sun to part shade in rich, well-drained soil with summer moisture. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.
