Begonia hemsleyana

Very hardy begonia grown in gardens for many years. Dormant through winter, emerging in June with fuzzy red stems carrying palmate leaves, dark green speckled white. A very nice texture for the shady, woodland garden, in moist conditions -- but not too moist. A bit of drying before watering is welcome. Requires good air circulation as well. Found at 4-6,000 ft elevation in Yunnan, China, these are frost hardy to 0F, USDA zone 7.
